The Web Guy
Should I be impressed that the latest "Ask the Vet" question is about a black bear hamster?? I don't know where the sender got "hamster" from "dog" and "cat," but it takes all kinds, right? I'll forward her question to Dr. G., but I won't be posting it. Duh....
Marketing is still my life. I'm working on three things simultaneously, and you know how dangerous I can be when multitasking. I've started reading all those pages I printed from Site Build It, and so far, I haven't learned anything new. I'll keep reading, tho.
On one of my discussion forums, someone posted a link to a page called, "An Apology to the Dogs of New Orleans." It's an awesome read, and once I finished it, I wanted to check out the rest of their website. It's a doggie portal called "doggybling.com." (A "portal" is like an online shopping mall. For advertisers, it's better when the focus is on one thing - such as dogs.)
The more I rooted around their site, the more impressed I became. THIS is the type of group I want to be a part of. So I sent them an email, asking them to check out my site and to let me know if they thought it would be a good fit. Fortunately, they emailed back, saying they thought we'd be a GREAT fit, and they wondered how they'd missed Furfection. (Yeah, how DID that happen??) We set up a phone appointment for the next morning.
Long story short: We chatted for over 1.5 hours, and I loved what I was hearing. First of all, Mr. Doggybling is as passionate about animals as I am. (He was the author of the "Apology.") Second, I LOVE the website. It's one of the classiest pet-related sites I've seen. Since I do all the web maintenance on the Furfection site, I was looking at their site beyond just the text and graphics. I was looking at the overall design, and all the individual elements of that design that came together so perfectly. When I mentioned to him that I was really impressed with the site, he said something about getting my web guy to do different things. Hello? I don't have a "web guy." So I said, "Uh... I AM my web guy." Silence on the other end. Not on mine, because I was laughing my butt off. I think it took a little bit to convince him I was in no way offended, but now I sign all my emails to him "The Web Guy."
We made another appointment to chat the next morning, after I'd had a chance to mull over the options for advertising on doggybling.com. Other than a couple of minor questions, I was sold. Our conversation the next morning lasted almost 45 minutes. Mr. Doggybling is very knowledgeable about his product (the portal), and he also told me about external things they do to help their advertisers, such as donating our products to various animal shelters in our names; showing our products in their Showcase, which is located in an exclusive shopping mall, just to name a couple.
Aside from the web guy comment, probably my favorite funny thing was when he said he believed that anyone who mistreated dogs or other animals must be a serial killer. He reminded me of research that showed most serial killers started out by killing animals. Yep, that's true. Like I said, he's passionate about animals.
Something both Mr. Doggybling and Site Build It mentioned was that I needed a Furfection blog. Not like this one, where I can say pretty much what I want about whatever. But a company blog, a professional one that picks up where the Furfection site leaves off. I think of them as being "sister" sites. I proudly introduce to you, The Furfection Blog. I welcome your feedback.

I've already been asked if having The Furfection Blog means I'll be abandoning this one. Yeah, right. I get to vent on this one. I get to rant on this one. I get to say pretty much whatever's on my feeble mind on this one. Give that up? Surely you jest!
