Call Me "Ms. Goodwrench"

Remember early last month when I spilled the juice on my car console, and my emergency flasher weirded out? After the initial steps I took to save the flasher switch (taking it apart and using a blow dryer on it, then leaving it apart overnight), I thought it would be OK. Uh...no.

About a week after that, I went into my garage one afternoon and my flashers were on. I hadn't been in the car that day, so I knew what was happening. Fortunately, all I had to do was press the switch a few times and they went off. Later that night, as I was drifting off to sleep, Mr. Furfection came in and said, "Honey, did you know your flashers were on??" Poop. So I got out of bed and took the switch apart again. I put it back together the next day but it still wouldn't shut off. I called Mr. Service Dept., who suggested I buy a can of electrical spray to clean the switch. I bought a can at Radio Shack, and I sprayed that thing until there couldn't have been any juice left anywhere. I let it dry overnight again, and the next day, it worked good as new.

Today I was getting ready to run some errands, and when I turned on my car, there was nothing. No engine, no starter, no nuthin'. Poop. I could see my emergency flasher was blinking very, very faintly. More poop. I've never jump-started a car, but I've seen it done many times. Being the true Virgo I am, I always read instruction manuals:-) Mr. Furfection's car was sitting in the garage because he was away on business, so I took out his owner's manual, and I took out mine, and followed the step-by-step instructions for hooking up the jumper cables.

The first time I tried to start my car, no sound could be heard. I thought maybe the cables were on wrong, so I re-did them. The next time I turned the key, there was a knocking kind of sound. Huh? I'd never heard that before, but I was certain the cables were hooked up correctly. So I turned the key again, and this time the knocking was a bit quicker than the last time. I turned the key off and on a few times until the car started. My battery had completely run down. My clock even needed to be reset.

Once I put all the manuals and cables away and had both hoods closed, I was ready to run those errands. The first one, tho, was to the dealership to get a new flasher switch. It's worth $500 to me not to have to jump-start my car again. OK. So it was only $47, but still....

Yesterday, I had finally gotten around to adding coolant to the car. My polite little message saying "Check Coolant Level" had been appearing intermittently for the past two weeks. I kept forgetting about it once I got home, but yesterday I took care of it. While I had the hood up, I thought it was also a good time to fill my windshield washer fluid. I felt like I'd been very productive getting those things done. Little did I know my mechanic's skills would be necessary again today. Oh well. All's well that ends well, right?

I never called the investment company back last week, but they called me again today. I tried to return their call, even tho I was only planning to say, "No, thank you." I ended up in someone's voicemail, and they didn't call me back today. Whatever. I'm still not interested.

A lady from New York called Sunday afternoon. Her sister had brought her some Furfection Naturals from San Francisco at Christmas time, and she LOVED them. She owns a new pet supply store, and she wants to carry my products. She said they were the best she'd ever used. (I could have told her that:-) As it turns out, she lives in the same neighborhood as Ms. Embroiderer. When I told her, she said, "OMG! I NEED an embroiderer!!" Well, there you go. A match made in heaven. I'm now waiting for her to decide which Furfection products she needs and in what quantities. I still can't figure out who originally brought her the products, because I looked up her sister's name in my database, and she's not there. Ms. NY said maybe she'd bought them somewhere in SF. I told her it wasn't possible, since you can only get them from my website. So it's a mystery. No big whoop, but it's a mystery.

I'm trying to learn new ways to drive traffic to my website. If anyone thinks it's an easy proposition, I'd like to personally smack them. Not only is it HARD; it's DAMNED HARD. The site is averaging over 200 sessions per day, and not a few are people looking for "Ask the Vet." I probably get 2-4 questions per day, but there's really no money in that. I've been adding the email addresses of the "askers" to my mailing list, but in the next week or so, I won't be able to do that. My hosting company is being required to implement the 3-way opt-in process for adding people to the list. My list has approx. 250 names so far, and not ONE has ever asked to be deleted. I'd like to think that's because my newsletter isn't just a sales sheet; it actually has value, especially with the Ask the Vet Q&As.

One of my friends recently asked if I knew anything about
Site Build It!, which I didn't. I spent a lot of time on their site yesterday, and I've decided to try it. It has a money back guarantee, so I'll only be out my time. People aren't washing their dogs in January, so it's a slow time, anyway. If any of you is familiar with this, or if you have any opinions about it, I'd love to hear from you.
